To reach Greece from all Europe or overseas is very simple: in fact you have the opportunity to travel, depending on your preference, either by plane or by ferry boat since the connections are well structured with all areas of the country.
Regarding the Cyclades Penne Bianche itineraries the port of boarding and landing is expected to be in the island of PAROS, situated in the middle of Cyclades archipelago. This island has been chosen because it’s situated in a strategic location for navigation, to allow you to visit the area at its best, thus avoiding long and sometimes tiring sailing upwind towards Athens.
PAROS is connected with many fast ferries and ferries from Piraeus (35 km away from the airport) or Rafina (a few kilometers). Landed in Athens you reach the Piraeus port by BUS (1 hour and 15-30 min) or METRO or TAXI (1 hour).
Then you can choose the ferry (journey time Piraeus-Paros 5 and 1/2 hours) www.bluestarferries.com or fast ferry (3 and 1/2 hours) www.hellenicseaways.gr.
From Rafina it’s more comfortable and fast if you do not want to visit to the city of Athens, the fast ferry company is www.seajets.gr
At the time of purchasing the air ticket it’s important to verify connections time between fast ferry and plane. If you are interested or if it’s necessary, because of flight departure, to spend one night in Athens, the city is always an interesting stop for a visit.
Alternatively you can fly to Mykonos or Santorini with direct flight from many cities with low cost airlines and connect to Paros by fast ferry or ferry. But be careful to have a wide margin of coincidence in Mykonos.
For cruises in the Dodecanese the boarding and landing is primarily expected in KOS, RHODES, SAMOS. There are many low cost direct flights including Ryanair, or you can stop in Athens and then take domestic flight to Kos, Rhodes and Samos with www.olympicair.com
Alternatively you can take a ferry with www.bluestarferries.com from Piraeus to Kos, boarding in the evening and arriving early in the morning.
The best advice is to plan and book your trip well in advance to get good rates and places availability. If possible, I suggest, to avoid the month of August and prefer the low season.
FERRIES AND FAST FERRIES IN GREECE
The domestic itineraries are scheduled to link the major ports of Attica (PIRAEUS, LAVRION, RAFINA) to the islands, as well as among the islands. The connections to the main islands are daily scheduled and even multi-day. Other ferry connections depart in the evening and arrive the next morning.
